This is where it was at when I went to bed last night. All the colored leaves will have white work so will look allot different when finished. This is Acrylic on velum (animal skin) and will have gold leaf soon.

So far today, this is what has been done. I should have done the gold leafing first...but I never work in the right order. The colors look a bit Christmasy to me right now, but there will be blue and red and lots of gold, so I suspect it won't look like Christmas when I am done. The purple all will get another coat so will be smother.

Here is the next step in the scroll I am doing. This is all the inked design (I may still add some stuff) and the ground for the diapering on the background. The design on the background will have gold leaf as will much of the Arms and some of the border.

Boys New Room

I just moved my BJD into a new "room", it is actually a shelf on a book shelf (well space for 2 really). I am still working on adding little things. Still need to find a lamp for him. If I had allot more room it turns out I actually have many many great items that are the right scale for him... Anyway, still need a name for him and still working on getting his a "little brother". Miniature stuff is SO much fun! I have always love tiny things and miniature versions of larger things, so this is becoming an enjoyable hobby!

I am working on a scroll for a friend. It is based on a sketch he did (which was very good) and I basically just translated and added to what he had done but on a real piece of velum (animal skin). 19 x 13 based on the Luttrel Psalter.

Here I am coloring the work of someone else, cause it appealed to me and they said I could. I should be doing any number of projects (many already paid for) but I do this instead. I got more than enough and had planned to order him asap!

Well, as I think I told everyone before, my son's mother is dieing of cancer, he called because she has had a turn for the worse and had no way to get to see her. So, the money I got for the doll has now been used to buy him a plane ticket to Wyoming to see his mother while he still can!

It's what a father does I guess...having just lost my own mother, and knowing how much Joe and his mom need to reconnect and see each other, there was no real choice.

I will get the doll eventually, this was more important!

I have been to Newgrange, I have stood before the huge carved stone that blocked the entrance! I have been IN this tomb and touched these stones! It is one of the most truly sacred sights I have ever been to. Standing on that ground was a religious experience like no other! This site is roughly 1000 years older than Stonehenge! Very cool!

Good Con and Good News

Darkover Con, which I have attended for over 20 years has not been very good sales wise in the past several years. This year I did fairly well in the art show, sold several books and calendars as well. This was the best Darkover sales I have had in many years!

The other good news is my son, who has been unreachable for the past 7 years has surfaced! He contacted his mother (has not contacted us yet) but knowing he is alive and well is great! I also am now a grandfather! He has a 6 month old son named Logan!
I just hope someday I get to meet him and that Joe lets us back in his life!

Anne McCaffrey has died! She was one of my favorite authors and one of the few who created gay characters as just normal people in her world. I was part of the Dragonriders of Pern Fan club Fort Weyr. Here is one of the pictures I did way back when of my character from Fort, T'ran and his green dragon, Ananth! Round Wood Muse Treat

While I have lots I should be doing, I can't seem to get any of them to work right now. So, I had an idea for badges painted on wooden rounds. And since Anbessa has commissioned me twice and I enjoyed doing the work for him, I thought I would do this as a gift for him. "Anbessa badge", acrylic on a 3 inch wooden round. Muse Treat, Eye Test

OK, I just did this as a test to see if my eyes were going to work well enough using the two pair of glasses at the same time trick to be able to do art. My eye problems are really making me crazy and worried but I am trying to work around it. Since I have nothing new to post I am trying to find stuff I have not posted here before. So here is another hand colored print. This was done for the back of my black and white book "Darkness & Light: Demons and Angels" (out of print). I admit I am a butt man and this angel has cute bunns! I love his face and wings as well. The black and white version is nice but I think color really makes this a great picture! I hope again I have not already posted this. It is a painted box that I did several years ago. I was trying to make an imitation ivory look for the center circle and do some inlay look as well. This is still available for sale. "Amor Box", 12 x 9 x 3 1/2, Acrylics and enamel on wood. The sides are decorated with a plant and gold border similar to that on the top. The inside is painted in a fake heart wood (red stain).

Just to update people and explain why I have not posted any new art in a while. My diabetes has played havoc with my eye sight and so it is hard to do any art right now. To make it clear how much problem it is, I am right now wearing a pair of off the rack reading glasses AND my prescription glasses over them (it looks stupid) just so I can see well enough to read and type this.

I hope VERY much that once we get my diabetes under control I can see an eye Dr and get new glasses that will work for me so I can get back to doing the art I need and want to do!

Hell Mouth in the Snow

The event I made the Hell Mouth entry way for had snow, yes SNOW all day long, 2 days before Halloween! It was cold and windy and we still had a full feast and a good time! Here is one of the only pictures of the Hell Mouth I did in place. It is about 9 feet tall and as wide as a very large sheet (I forget the mesurments exactly). I had to add strips on the side and the wind blew them around in this picture. Acrylics, latex house paint, on a sheet.

Giant Muse Treat

OK, it is not really a Muse Treat, it is the entry way for our upcoming SCA Halloween event http://www.brighthills.net/events/tnt2011.html . This is based on a Hell Mouth from an illuminated manuscript and will have the center area where the teeth are cutout. It will frame the door to the event and will have "flames" hanging in front of the open area. This is Acrylic and latex house paint on a large sheet.The section shown here is 65 x 36 aprox. it is only the top part of the overall doorway. Once the thing is up at the event I will try and get pictures to show the finished work. Picture 44.

This is the King of Jewels from my Tarot deck, it is Corum, one of Micheal Moorcock's Eternal Champions. My Tarots Major Arcana is based on all of the main Eternal Champions. They fit so well I wonder if Mr. Moorcock planned them that way. I am very happy with how this one came out, there is allot of mood and a feeling to me that captures Corum well. The original is roughly 8 x 5, marker and watercolor colored pencil on illustration board. Prints available.

Since I am having problems with my health and motivation and creativity, I have no new art to post. But since Pyrocantha is demanding art, here is something I did in 1989. I love the overall feel of this and hop you like it. The adult figure was inspired by one of the figures on the Last Judgment by Michelangelo. Joy in the Mist is 8 1/2 x 11, marker on art paper.

I have 8 things on my list and even more than that to do, several of which are due soon. But I am not being able to draw or paint anything...So I am trying to do something, anything to get me working again. This is an idea for the cover for my Sons of the Sea book. Just an idea, very early on in the process.

New Book Cover Ideas

OK, even though I have not sold even one copy of my Faerie book yet, I am working on my next book. This one is Mermen, and I am calling it Sons of the Sea. I have started a new picture that if it comes out might be what I use for the cover. But these two are pictures I already had done that I thought of for the cover originaly. So I would like to get feedback from anyone reading this on which you think works best as a cover.

Well, I am not completely happy with it, but it is done. The person who commissioned it likes it (with small reservations). When I Die

(I am posting this just so there is no question about my wishes after I am gone. With the recent passing of my mother and my current physical conditions I thought it might be good to have my wishes known!)

I want a Green Funeral; there are places that will do this. Green as in all natural, no preservatives, a cheap biodegradable coffin and I want to be able to actually decompose into the earth as we were meant to do.

I DO NOT want a Christian Funeral! I want NO hymns, NO priest or minister (unless they are pagan or Buddhist or some other NON Christian type).

If Don has died before me, I want to be next to him if he is in a green cemetery and biodegradable. If I die before him I want to be buried where he can be next to me after he dies. I want everything I own to go to Don, he can do what he wants with it. I want NO flowers; I would like people to plant a tree or lilac bush in my memory instead. They can plant these anywhere they want. Living, positive, natural things are what I want as a memorial instead of cut flowers that will quickly fade!

Eye Troubles

Well, as of my birthday (Sept. 10) my eyes have gone all funny...I used to need glasses to read and do art but seeing distance things was fine. NOW I can't see past about 5 feet before everything goes very blurry but I can read the computer screen better without the glasses. I hope to get to an optometrist soon and find out what the heck is going on!

Al-Qaeda won on 9/11, if you doubt it just look at how far America has fallen since the attack 10 years ago! We have spent Trillions on 2 wars that we have no end in sight to. We are bankrupt because of paranoia, war and policies put in place out of fear! Bush was allowed to do terrible things in our name and without any real opposition because of 9/11. It has been and still is the big boogie man...10 years later and we have done NOTHING to move on. We cower in fear and waste our money and time and lives fighting the ghost of 9/11.
Al-Qaeda has won, America is finish unless we move on, stop spending Trillions on war and stop being afraid of another attack!

Finaly Something New I hope

OK, I was commissioned to do a sign for a guy who does Bow and Arrow stuff in the SCA. His Company is Viking Archery Supply. He had a vision of what he wanted and this is what I came up with from his vision. This is 11 x 6 1/2 Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil on Canson board. The lettering was added in paintshop and this will be made into a small vinyl banner for him to use. Fisnished IF he says he is happy with it. Picture 42.
