Cover For Jon Done

Pending my friend Jon who this is for OKing it, here is a bad photo of the finished cover for his story. I will post a link to the eBook when he has it up! This is "Prophet & Loss", 10 x 16, Acrylic and Prisma Color on Canson board. Prints available (if Jon says it is OK and once I have better pics of it). Picture 4.

Next Cover Layers and Layers Latter

This is many more steps into the picture than the last one and it has many layers more than last time. I still have many layers to go before it is done. I will be adding glowing bioluminescents on the cave walls and roughing up the dress. But I have done allot and wanted to record it at this step.

Next Cover Step 2

I am happy with the way this is heading now. Got paint on the board and I think this is going to be dramatic and work well as a cover. So, here is the next step in the progress of the cover for my friend Jon's story.

Another Cover

My friend Jon has asked me to do a "cover" for his story that h will publish as an Ebook so we have been going back and forth to work out the right concept /design. This is about the 4 version, but it is the closest to right so far. It is all one color really but the scan was done in two parts an since it is just a preliminary I have not worried about it not being perfect. So Here is Jon's story cover sketch one!

Finished Cover Finaly

I have been given the go ahead to post the finished cover I had been doing and had shown most of the steps for here. This is the cover for "Gods of Crystal, Gods of Dreams" by Sally Fink. http://www.lalloure.com/index.html Her version of the cover is cropped to match her first cover art so you will see a slightly different version on her page than the full picture I show here. Picture 2 of the year. Prints available.

Head Case

I am trying to design new coronets for a Barony in the SCA and while I like the designs so far, it is a bit frustrating trying to not break rules that we should not have to deal with...anyway, here is the first and second basic design. They are both very rough but get the design across. They will be leather with shaded gold when finished. I like the top one best but due to perceived issues the bottom one is more likely to be what I use.

Compleated Love

Finally I have my third picture for this year done, boy I feel like I am way behind as it is already February and I have only done 3 pictures!! The second was the book cover (that I can not show you the finished version of yet because of the agreement with the author).
When I started this it was going to be quick, just something inspired by Valentine's day and the fact I love doing pictures of Eros/Cupid! But it of course took longer than I expected...and it also became more personal. The face ( a variation on the photo reference I used) was suddenly very familiar! I know him and love him and always will, while not a perfect likeness, it is the face of my first love, Terry! The body is more buff than his was, but it is still him! This was not planned but in the past people would ask "who is that guy you are always drawing/painting?" And I would say, "I don't know" cause I was not consciously doing it...but then they would see a picture of Terry and say "AH! That's the guy!" I knew he reset my ideal of beauty when I met him and I know he is in my heart forever but I was not aware that I was paining him by default!
Later, after my son came along, people would say "Who is that boy you are always drawing/painting?" and I would say "I don't know!" Then they would see my son and say "AH! It's him." And once they said it I could see Joe had indeed crept into most of the non particular pictures of children I did!

Anyway, finaly here is (bad title) Eros 2013, 10 x 16, Acrylic and ProWhite on Canson board. Original and prints for sale. Picture 3.

Love Delayed

I had really hoped this would be done by now, especially since it is NOT what I should be working on. BUT it is coming along slowly so I hope it is done soon so I can get back to the cover art for my friend Jon. Sometimes I need to do work that is not preordained not requiring of anything, that I can just DO what I want. This is sort of a pallet cleanser between commissions. Anyway, same size and materials as last post but a bit more work done. Eros 2013 WIP 2.

New Valentine

My muse, brat that he is, decided instead of working on the many things I owe people I should do a new Eros/Cupid picture. So here is the start of a new Eros picture (no real title yet). But it was inspired by friends who said something about Cupid being embodied by a fat baby with wings and I said he was originally shown as a beautiful youth! 10 x 16, Acrylic on Canson board.

Happy Valentine's Day

I am sure this was posted before but did not come up in a search, so I am going to go ahead and post it!
Happy Valentine's Day to all. My love is for my "husband " (still not legal but soon), my son (who I am so worried about) and my grandson!
I did this as a black and white Valentine's card back in 1994, it was printed on a goldenrod card stock. I then did a hand coloring on one and this is how it came out. I have always loved how it looked both black and white and in color! "Cupid's Birthmark", 8 1/2 x 11, Acrylic on cardstock.

Cover Art Done

Well, the cover is complete but I can not post the final version until the book has been published. The author was very pleased with how it came out and said she wants me to do the next cover as well! Yeah! And to think the first sketch was so not to her liking that she was going to scrap the whole idea of me doing the cover. Now she is saying she enjoyed the process and is happy with the final picture. I am so glad!
I hope by the end of the month or early next, I can post the final picture.

Delays and Flooding

Well, I had hoped to have the book cover I have been working on done by now. End of January was my deadline (the customer said it was ok to be a little late and understood my delay). Wednesday night we had flooding in our family room/basement and that is where my work area is. So I was up till 3 fighting flood on Wed. and the whole area was damp and a mess Thursday, so I could not work. I just got everything back in place and it is mostly all dry now. So I hope to have the picture done by the end of the weekend.
