Last Picture of 2010

As is normal for me, this was done when I should have been doing something else. I still owe someone art and will get to it very soon, but I needed a break from "Cage Fighters". This is another in my Faerie pictures series, but with a clear and non blurred background. "Faerie Warrior/ Queens Champion", 15 x 20, Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil on Canson board (of course). Original and prints for sale. Picture 72.

Numbers for 2010

Well, the end of 2010 and I have 72 followers on here and I have done 72 pictures this year. I know I only have 71 pictures posted, but I have the last one done just not photographed and posted yet. I will be posting it as soon as I can.

To the new followers, please post comments, that is why I have this Weble/blog, to get feedback and hear what others think of my work.

Thank you to all those who follow this and who comment!

Logo

Not sure if I posted this yet, but I thought I would show my "Faerie Ring Press" logo, in case you had not seen it. It was inspired by an early 1900's book plate. The original is maybe 5 x 5, done in black and white in marker. This is a hand colored print, 8 x 8 or so. Acrylic on cardstock print. Prints available.

Boxing Day Bonus

I did  this (before the Yule Cards) and it was the first I did to try and get out of my slump a few months ago. It didn't get me out of the slump and it sat and got worked on a little here and a little there and is still not done (well, I don't know what else I am doing with it but I don't think it's done). Not sure of the final name for this either...anyway, thought I would post it before the end of the year since even if it does not get finished before the new year, I consider it a 2010 picture.
"True Soul" or "Soul Satyr"... 28 x 11, acrylic, prisma colors, house paint, watercolor colored pencils (I think). 71

Hand Made Tree

OK, so we didn't make the tree itself or the lights, but everything else on this years tree was hand made by me and Don. He did the origami ornaments and I did the chains and the flower/snowflake ornaments and tree topper! Hope you all have a great Holiday!

So this is how Reindeer Fly!

I bought the original of this from http://www.furaffinity.net/user/savannahhorrocks/
I think it is well done and since I love bats, this just worked for me!

Hand Made Holiday

My husband Don and I have done hand made ornaments for our Christmas tree over the past several years. Last year we had to retire/discard many of the last remaining ornaments we had made many years before so this year we made new ones. This is the "star" for the top of the tree and is my own design based on quilling! It is simply strips of card stock rolled and glued to make the different shapes. Not perfect but I like it and maybe will do allot more "quilling" in the future. Roughly 8 inches across, art thing number 70.

Holiday Oddities

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDiXPx2OqPI&feature=player_embedded

I do find the oddest things...not sure if I should post the "Glory hole a luya Courus" (wel done but disterbing).

Old Christmas

I hope I haven't already posted this, it is a card design for 1997. Just wanted to post something new (even though I have no new work to post right now).
"Snowflake Angel", 5 1/2 x 8 1/2, Acrylic on Canson board. I think the original is gone...prints available.

Faerie Fooling

Of course, with stuff I absolutely NEED to get done, I did something else! Well, I am lucky I got anything done and I hope this helps me get back to doing what I need to do. Inspired by the work of other artists I follow, this little guy jut came out. He was softer until I started doing the background and had to make his edges sharper so he was not lost in the dark trees..oh well, that is how it goes sometimes.
"Fisher Faerie", 8 x 8 on yellow/green scrapbook paper, Copic and Micron marker, Acrylic, watercolor colored pencil and Prisma Color...everything but the kitchen sink! Picture 69, original and prints for sale!

Watch This Space

More old art...this is an odd little pic I did way back when. It was originally set in a wooded background but The feel was all wrong so I "converted" the woods to planets and space! I like the flow but have no idea what it is for. "Space Dancer" 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 (if I remember right) marker on Bristol. Prints available.

New Floor

I may not be getting art done but I have done some home improvement. Here is a picture of our dinning room with the new tile floor I put in. Yes it is peal and stick, but they look good and the ones I did in our bathroom have held up well for 3 years so far. The wall now has to have more work done as I could not get to it to finish the vines when I first did it.

Winter Love Song

Fire Night
copyright Don Hooper

My love for you has no bounds tonight
As the snow flies about the land
And the dreams more than fire bright
Are now real when you touch my hand

My love is stronger than winter storm
Our hearts are fire in the cold of steel
As we lie here embraced and warm
There is no end to the love I feel

Warm fire bright fills the room
With its warm fire glow
Fires that burn in the night
Leave a peace that is right
fire bright
fire night

The nights are long and the days are white
The winter holds firm the mountain lands
As the snow flies about the night
We lie here safe from its freezing hand

Warm fire bright fills the room
With its warm fire glow
Fires that burn in the night
Leave a peace that is right
fire bright
fire night

Date of Second Coming leaked, Jesus said to be 'furious'

News that Christians in the US have been leaking the date for the Second Coming – it's May 21, 2011, they say – has made Jesus "furious, in fact, absolutely livid," according to reports. The long-awaited date has been revealed in advertising on bumper stickers, the sides of trucks, and now in a billboard campaign for Christmas (above).
"It's one thing for Wikileaks to reveal that Prince Andrew is a prat, but this leaking of the top secret date for the Rapture is just beyond contemptible," said the office of a high-ranking archangel. "It's a threat to biblical security."
Unconfirmed sources say that when the news was broken to Jesus that world-class biblical scholar Harold Camping was behind the leak, he flew into a tirade of almighty proportions.
"What part of 'no man knoweth the day or the hour' doesn't he understand?" he raged. "Even I didn't know until like five minutes ago, and now it's all over Heat magazine."
The Holy Spirit is also reported to have "gone tonto" at the news.
Old Testament scholars believe the billboard campaign will backfire on Mr Camping. "What he's done is a bit of an abomination unto the Lord," said one scholar, "and that never plays too well with the Fire and Brimstone department in Heaven."
But New Testament scholars disagree, saying that Mr Camping can expect to be "left behind" in the Rapture, along with author Tim LaHaye, who has also revealed classified information about the Second Coming in his popular Left Behind novels.
Camping and LaHaye are now expected to undergo the Great Tribulation, according to one expert, plus the wrath of the Whore of Babylon, and an unwelcome meeting with "the beast having seven heads and ten horns".
"They're going to throw the Book of Revelation at them," he said.

The Virgin Mary was unavailable for comment.

Diffrent Other Tarot

Well, here is another Tarot card, but not from my Tarot of Atlantis but from my Tristan Alexander Tarot (also called the Eternal Champions Tarot). This is the only truly bad card in any Tarot deck as normal or reversed it is just not good news sorta card. It is also the only one in my deck that is drawn sideways. "10 of Swords".

So Much To DO, So Little Drive

Right now I have allot I need to be doing and just can't seem to get motivated. I have the last of the 4 part commission to do. I have 2 Tarot decks to put together and get shipped out. Our downstairs bathroom has a TON of work needed, including cutting Masonite and putting it on the walls, and painting it! Also I want to do several pictures (several are needed for my new Faerie Book and for my Goddess Incarnate book).

Any, so much to do I just can't seem to get anything done!

World AIDs Day, REMEMBER!

http://www.brandchannel.com/home/post/2010/12/01/World-AIDS-Day.aspx

My younger brother died of AIDs when he was 31! I have lost many friends over the years, especially in the 80's when the epidemic first hit. We have lost many many artists and talented people to this disease.
The first ribbon people wore to remind and remember about something was the red ribbon for AIDs!
DO NOT FORGET!

And Now For Something Compleatly Different!

Trying to find something to post, and trying to find pictures for a new book, I found this and don't think I have posted it before. One of my rare female pictures. This is the "Empress" from my "Tarot of Atlantis", a black and white major arcana I did a few years ago. Hope you like her; 9 x 12, marker on art paper. I have just added a colored version along with the original black and white. Prints available of both.

Darkover

Well, I just finished Darkover Con. In the past few years I have not done well sales wise there so I was only going to take 10 pictures...I ended up taking 18 pictures. Amazingly, this year was better than the last 3 or 4 combined. I sold 4 pictures, (Wolf Pair, Warm Wishes being one of them). So overall the art show went well and had several good artists and more art panels than in the past.
Steampunk, while not prominent in the art show, seems to be up and coming at Darkover. Last year there was a little of it in the dealers room, this year there was more and better in the dealers room, and programingg tracks! Maybe this will revitalize this convention!

Wolf Card

Since my husband loves wolves (and I like them too) and since I wanted another design for our Christmas card, I did this. "Wolf Pair/Warm Wishes", 8 1/2 x 5 1/2, Acrylic on Bristol. Prints available (original sold).  68

Enough!

by Disturbed

(We don't want them, we want everything)
(We've chosen to want everything)

We don't want them, who want everything
We've stolen in this suffering
And we told them to want everything
But use caution in what you believe
And the haunted, deny everything
Controlling in this suffering
When they're broken, and lost everything
They're so much easier to lead

Take their hope away
Take their life away
Leave them nothing left inside

[Chorus:]
When you're own have died
When there's no more pride
When your soul is frozen
Is that enough?
When your heart is broken
A thousand times
With every moment?
Is that enough?

Without warning, we take everything
Undaunted in this suffering
The dark forces surround everything
Make it impossible to see
Take their hope away
Take their life away
Leave them nothing left inside
[Chorus]
Haven't they suffered enough now
Haven't we suffered enough now
Haven't they suffered enough, the damage more than they can bear
Haven't they suffered enough now
Haven't we suffered enough now
Haven't they suffered enough, the damage more than I can bear

Did they even have a reason why
Countless sons and daughters had to die
Can you even comprehend the pain

[Chorus]
When you're own have died
When there's no more pride (When there's no more pride)
When your soul is frozen
Is that enough? (Is that enough?)
When your heart is broken
A thousand times (A thousand times)
With every moment?
Is that enough?

My Son

I decided to scan and post a couple pictures of my son. I have not seen or heard from him in 6 years. I miss him and worry about him, allot. When he was little we called him Joey, when he got into his teens he preferred Joe. The picture on the left is him at 10 (I think, it does not say on the back so I am not completely sure). The other is him at 14 which I did write on the back of the picture, so I am sure. These just happen to be the two photos of him in my wallet.

Trapped in Illinois

We went to visit my mother in Illinois for a week and ended up stuck there for almost 2. Our trucks transmission went out and had to be rebuilt. So we had nothing to do and could not go visit anyone or see anything with no transportation. So, we just got home...Art may be posted in a few days if I have anything to post.

Burning Art

I am considering burning some of my art. I have tons of it and no one has bought it, so it is useless and worthless. I have so little space an don;t really want to pack it up and try and store it. If I could stop making the crap, it would be better, but I can't stop drawing and painting so I have piles of art just cluttering up the world. Art the no one wants is worth nothing!

Burgundian Death

This is a scroll for an SCA (http://www.sca.org/) event that is happening tomorrow. It is for the person who dies best in the tournament! The event is Burgundian themed and this was based on a page from The Master of Mary of Burgundy, a book of hours. The original picture is for the Office of the Dead, I made only a few minor changes to the original. I took out one skull and put in the populace badge for my Barony. And I put the name of the Barony on the banner instead of whatever was originally written there. I still have to do the calligraphy on this, but wanted to post just the art first. This is about 7 1/2 x 9, Acrylic and ProWhite on velum (the skin not the paper).  Prints available. Picture 66.

Great Song

Grace Slick did a great solo album called "Dreams" I love almost everything on it. Here is just one of the wonderful songs!

Big Gray Guy

This was done as a prize for an SCA event many years ago. It is based on a 1500's enameled jewelry piece. It is a Father Satyr figure. I also did a Female/Mother version. Both were done in Acrylic on gray paper and were about 5 feet tall.  I hope I have not posted this before.

Another Fight

Well, provided the person who commissioned this likes it, I am done with another picture. He has one more in this series to go. "Bronco, Chicken Cage Fight", 8 1/2 x 11, Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil on Canson board. Again, if it is OKed, prints will be available. (Note; The person who commissioned it liked it, so it is done and prints are now for sale.)picture 65.

Baby Corum

I found this old picture of one of our cats. This is Corum who is about 10 now but was just a kitten in this picture. He is laying on a sheep skin I think. He is a sweet and loving cat.

You Choose to follow a Religion, you DO NOT choose your Sexuality!

Thursday, October 14, 2010

I deleted the comments from the original post because I completely disagree with anyone who thinks being gay or straight is a choice! If you think they are a choice, I think you are very wrong and playing into the hands of those who would deny Gay rights using that argument! You may be born into a religion but it is NOT immutable, you CAN easily in most cases, chose to follow a different faith or no faith at all. Who you are attracted to sexually/emotionally is NOT a choice! There is more than a little scientific evidence that shows an actual physical difference in the brains and genetic factors of Gay men compared to straight men and women. So if you want to comment on this post and you think being gay is a choice, DON'T comment!

And yet the Law Acts as if we ARE a Christian Nation

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWBG8byqqUI&feature=player_embedded

This is an EXCELLENT tutorial on the truth of our so called "Christian Nation"!

Back to the Fights

I am finally back to the 4 part commission that I still have 2 parts to go on. This is the first step (well, after pencil sketch) of the peice. The person commissioning it was please with this so I am proceeding with the work. "Bronco Fight 2".

Even More lil Imp

Normally, I would never do this, especially since the two parts will never be together as a matted framed original. But, I just had to see all of him so, I painted the bottom part of little imp, scanned it and have put them together in "paintshop". So this is available as a special print. Lil Imp (full body).

Early Halloween

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I am happy that I think this picture, inspired by Halloween may have gotten me out of my "slump". This is "Lil Imp" and I think he is very cute!   8 1/2 x 10, Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil on Canson board. Original for sale/ prints available. picture 64

Still Working Out The Bugs

I am trying anything I can to get myself back to doing art I feel is good quality. This is still far from my normal quality (in my opinion). But I enjoyed doing it and it came out more or less as I had hoped. The title is from a song by Shinedown (I was listening to them while working on this), it just seemed to fit somehow. Also, I consider this a Halloween inspired picture. I hope I can get to the commissions I own people soon.
"Sin With a Grin", 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil on blue paper. Original for sale and prints available. picture 63

Little Demon, Trick or Treat

http://www.furaffinity.net/user/savannahhorrocks/  on Furaffinity recently posted a couple pictures that heavily influenced/inspired this. I love Halloween and that is also why I did this. It's not very good, but I am not drawing well lately. Prisma color and Acrylic on black paper, 9 x 12. Original and prints for sale (the scan colors a not exact to the original) picture 62

National Coming Out Day

Well, they have been doing this for several years and I don't see that it has been a great success, but we have to take what we can get. If you are gay and have not come out yet, please consider doing so! Be sure you have friends and family who you know will support you, even if your family won't (or you think they won't) be sure you have friends who can have your back. Most people are surprised when they come out at just how many of their family and friends already know! If you are an adult and lying to everyone to try and hide being gay, you are doing yourself and those who care about you a disservice. Be yourself and be free!
I don;t know if I have posted this before but I decided "Bluebird and the Serpents Tooth" would be a good picture to post in honor of today. If you are not honest with yourself you are wounded and need to heal.

Enlightenment Might Make My Head Explode

This weble is not here so I can spout every crazy thought I have (like so many seem to be). But My recent realization that Christianity is not a good or honest religion and that I am not a Christian has made me become VERY angry with the bigotry and hate perpetrated by "the Church" and "people of faith" especially towards Gays! We are born gay but they chose to believe a religion that says we should be hated and discriminated against. I have also realised that Politics are like religion and both are simply ways for Corporations to control and manipulated people. It doesn't matter in the end what you believe or what party you belong to because in the end Big Business is running everything and using false differences of ideal or belief to keep us fighting each other while they abuse everyone and steal money and life form us.

I hope the revolution and/or complete enslavement of the common man does not happen until after I am dead. In another 50 years something big will happen I have no doubt, but I won't live another 50 years...so I just hope I can close my eyes to what is happening and enjoy life while I can. I feel sorry for the children who will end up dealing with the worst of this when they are adults and the worst stuff happens.

Everything is an illusion and we are being played against each other for greed by Corporations.

Old Wet Green

Reworked Art

In 2008 I did a picture with  glass winged butterfly wings on a blond fairy boy. I was VERY happy with the leaves and plants around him, and he was OK, but somehow the picture just did not work. I just repainted parts of it and I think it is better now. "Watch Where You Step" (new title), 10 x 10, Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil on Canson board.

Collaboration of Sorts Two

Hibbary http://www.furaffinity.net/user/hibbary/  did the great drawing on the left and allowed me to color it...well, in this case I sorta went off in my own direction. The original drawing had nothing to indicate the theme I came up with. But I really like how it came out. The concept of this was inspired by Medieval works. the background was inspired by illuminations from a 15th century book of hours. "Knight of Hearts", 8 1/2 x 11, Acrylic, Copic and Micron marker on print.  59

ACEO

That stands for Art Card Editions or Originals. These are art done on small cards of various types. This one is done on 2 1/2 x 3 1/2  cold press watercolor paper. It was done with Micron marker and Acrylic. "Satyr Shadow", original for sale, prints, maybe. Picture 58.

Collaboration of Sorts

On FurAffinity there is a wonderful artist called Hibbary, http://www.furaffinity.net/user/hibbary/ she (I am pretty sure it's a she) allowed me to color some of her work and this is the first. I have no name for this picture yet, the original and prints are for sale. I printed out the drawing and added the background and color. The black in the background is done with copic marker, the rest of the color is Acrylic. * 1/2 x 11, Acrylic and copic marker on photoprint paper. 57

Cage Fight 2

Well I finally finished the second cage fighters picture commission. I am fairly happy with it and unless the person who commissioned it wants changes, it's done! "Cage Fighters 2", 8 1/2 x 11, Acrylic on Canson board. Prints available. Picture 56.
The next picture will most likely be a collaboration of sorts. I have permission from one of the artists I like on FurAffinity to finish/color some of their sketches. So the next pic I hope to post will be one of these.

New 20 Year Old Picture

It seems odd to put a 2010 copyright on this since I started it maybe 20 years ago. Some time back I think I posted the name badge I did for my husband with his face and a wolf head. That was at least 20 years ago I am sure that I did that picture. Well, this picture was the first attempt but didn't look like him and the wolf looked to dog like, so I stoped working on it. Recently while cleaning out an old box I found the maybe half done picture that I had not thrown out and decided I liked it enough to finish it. So here is "Companions", 3 x 4, Acrylic and copic marker on watercolor paper. Even though it was started along time ago, it is now picture 55 done this year. Original for sale!

Substitute Art

I am working on several things at once and one of them is the new book "Faerie Dust". Looking for art for it I found a bad photo of a picture I did in 2000. I really like the picture but the photo quality is just not good enough to use.
Since I have a black and white line scan of this picture done before color was added to the original, I decided to do a hand colored print. I printed the black and white line work picture out and then painted that print. So here is "Oberon's Guard", 8 1/2 x 11 hand colored print, Acrylic on cardstock. I hope to have the finished Cage Fighters sequel and maybe another small picture done very soon.

Sea & Sky

(I hope I didn;t post this already)
A few years ago on a panel at a Con we asked what people wanted to see, they said more male male affection (not porn or sex but affection). So I did this up quickly and lo and behold, it sold as fast as it was up. Roughly 4 x 10 on mottled matt board scrap. Prisma color and Acrylic.
Inspired by the old saying "A bird and a fish may fall in love, but where would they live?"

Dragon Rider Boy

I may have posted the black and white version of this but I have this color version and wanted to put it up. Simple coloring but I think it works. This is a character I created for the Dragonriders of Pern fan club. "V'tor & Sparks", 8 1/2 x 11 print colored with Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil.

Dark Old Boy

Gee coming up with a header to try and catch your attention is getting harder. I don't want to say "Here is another Old Picture". Anyway, this was done in 1997, it is white prisma color on black paper. I really love how these look and they are fun to do. This one appeared in my out of print "Darkness & Light" book. "Little Devil", 8 x 10. Prints available.

Lost Follower

Well, I recently received an email ripping apart the study for the cage fighters and the African child pictures. I suspect that that is who has drooped off as a follower of my Weble.

If I do a couple of pictures you don't like or don't think is my best work it should be no surprise. I can not please everyone all the time and I know everyone has different tastes. Comments here are helpful when they are constructive! Just saying you like something is OK, but doesn't guide me as an artist. Comments that you don't like something are helpful IF you give me constructive criticism! Tell me specifically why you don't like the picture or what you think I could have done better. Insults and questioning if I have "lost it" are NOT helpful in any way.

So, if you follow this Weble, you should already know the work varies and changes and will continue to do so. Thank you to those who have commented and those who continue to look at my work here.

Book Cover Help Again

OK, I plan to do a Faerie book soon and these are the two cover ideas I currently have. The "Faerie Drummer" was the first idea but now I like "Dew Drop". I know the lettering does not stand out allot on either of them, but besides that, what do you think of each?

Old Rough and Small

I was cleaning out some boxes and came across this very small, old sketch. It was torn almost in half and so the original will be thrown away. But I now have this nice scan of it so it is not lost forever.  It is an old, very rare just off the top of my head sketch. I don't have many of these anymore so I wanted to keep a record of this and share it. "Squatting Elf", 3 1/2 x 4 1/3, black ball point pen on scrap paper.

I am working on the Cage Fighters but it is going slow, so I did this quick little picture in hopes of freeing up my muse and getting me going on what I have to do! Very Cool Stuff

http://johnkenn.blogspot.com/?ref=nf
A friend posted this link on Facebook with the quote; ‎"It's as if Maurice Sendak and Edward Gorey had a baby, and all that baby did was read Lovecraft." And I could not have said it better myself!

Step One (new picture)

OK, I am finally getting something done on the commission. This is the second step really (the first being the sketch). This is a follow up to the cage fighting picture I did. So far just gray scale and white on Canson board, 8 1/2 x 11.

New Art, sorta

OK, my muse is still being a brat and I am not getting anything done I need done. But since Vicki Wyman, a friend and fellow artist gave me some pencil drawings to ink and color, I have at least done one of those. This is not a great scan and I may end up taking a picture of this to get a better one to post later. The circle in the background is not right because I had to scan it in two parts and it just did not got back together right. The colors are also not as nice as the actual picture, but I wanted to get something up since I have something new after so long!  "Bounty of the Sea", 11 x 14, Acrylic, watercolor colored pencil, Micron marker, Copic marker, and Pro White. Picture 53.

Young Old Stuff

I hope I haven't posted this yet. I don't recall what inspired him but I love him. This is "Bat Boy in a Birch Tree", marker on Bristol (I think), 8 1/2 x 11. Not the best title, but it is what it is. I just love his face and the wings. His hands are not the best, but oh well, this is from 1992. As always, prints available.

My followers and friends may want to check this out once it is more off the ground!

Banner Project

My shop at Pennsic is going through some changes and to decorate the outside, I have decided to have large banners of art by each artist who sells in the shop done. These will feature art by one artist and will have their name on it. The first 2 are by myself and Christine Hutson (Mistress Kris Gilibari in the SCA). Here they are they are 4 x 2.5 feet on vinyl.
