Last Picture of 2011

I guess this will be the last picture I will get done this year. It is just a small quick picture I did from a sketch I had laying around. I still have tons of paid work I have to do so I am sure the first pictures of 2012 will be commissions I finally get to. The background is not how I hoped it would come out, but sometimes that is how it goes. This is "Blue Jay Jewel", 8 x 8, Acrylic, watercolor colored pencil, Copic marker, Micron marker on scrap booking paper. Picture 54.

Easy Come Easy Go

For Christmas I asked for money to help me get the BJD (ball jointed doll) I want. http://dollfairyland.com/board/view.php?board_name=DREAMBOARD11&choose2=&choose1=&ID=2
I got more than enough and had planned to order him asap!

Well, as I think I told everyone before, my son's mother is dieing of cancer, he called because she has had a turn for the worse and had no way to get to see her. So, the money I got for the doll has now been used to buy him a plane ticket to Wyoming to see his mother while he still can!

It's what a father does I guess...having just lost my own mother, and knowing how much Joe and his mom need to reconnect and see each other, there was no real choice.

I will get the doll eventually, this was more important!

My Son and Me

I just rescanned this photo of me and Joe at Pennsic. He was 7 or 8 at the time! Normally I hate having my picture taken and hate how I look in them, but this one is nice and I am glad I have it!

Monkey Done

Finally something finished. I will be thrilled to see this as an actual tattoo once my friend who commissioned this gets it done! "Hanuman Tattoo", 5 x 7, Acrylic on Bristol. Prints may be available if the commissioner allows. Picture 53.

Hanuman Still Waiting

I had hoped to be done with the Hanuman tattoo design by now, but due to the time it takes to get feedback and work out details to make it exactly right for the person it is for, it is not quite done yet. Maybe I will have it finished and post it tomorrow!

Relaxing Doll

Here is another picture of my BJD (still have not settled on a name for him) with his dark hair (a much better wig than the red one though I like the red color better). Here he is reclining on his couch in his new Japanese garb.

Blessed Solstice!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UnHENy8t5o

I have been to Newgrange, I have stood before the huge carved stone that blocked the entrance! I have been IN this tomb and touched these stones! It is one of the most truly sacred sights I have ever been to. Standing on that ground was a religious experience like no other! This site is roughly 1000 years older than Stonehenge! Very cool!

Monkey Making

This is not done but I wanted to show something new and it will be done in a day I hope! This is a tattoo design for a friend. "Hanuman", 5 x 7, Acrylic on Bristol. Work in progress! (updated 12/21)

No Longer Naked

I had a friend make clothing for my BJD. She did an amazing job! Here is a picture of him in some of what she made.

Happy Holidays!

I posted the art before but not with the lettering. So since Yule/Christmas is this week I thought I would post both this years cards as they look printed! I hope everyone has a Joy and Peace filled Holiday! I know mine is better than I could have dreamed already because of my son being back in my life and knowing I have a grandson!

Can't Resist

My grandson is SO cute! Thankfully his mother posts lots of pics so I can see him even before I get to meet him (we hope to go out to see them in the Spring). This close up of his adorable face shows his amazing eyes and that hair so well I had to post it here!

Its Spreading

Here is an update on the jaket I am decorating. It is done in  dark blue marker (which I hope is permenant enough) and the silver is fabric paint!

2011 Christmas Tree

This is our Christmas Tree this year. Except the lights everything on it is hand made mostly by me and Don. The Santa star was made by my son Joe when he was in grade school!

Clothing Art

This is a bad photo of a jacket I got from a friend, sorta 18oo's/pirate style. I am covering it with dark blue and silver decorations. This is just the center back (all I have done so far). But I plan to cover the whole thing in decorations.

Overworked or Not

OK, so here is the picture I was working on and I fear I overworked the background, made it to busy for the figure. I should have gone with something simple. Ah well, here is "Jykhotl Jump", 8 1/2 x 11, Acrylic and Pro White on Canson board. Original and prints for sale. Picture 52.

Can't Help It

I still can't believe that I am a grandfather! My son says he can't wait for me to meet his son and he thought it was cool that he unintentionally named his son after my father's father. Here is a great picture of Logan that shows off his beautiful red hair!

Sunday, December 4, 2011

Something New Anyway

This is the early stage of a picture that I have almost done. It was just something inspired by a design on Fur Affinity and I am afraid I overworked the background on the finished picture. But I like the prelim so here it is. "Jykhotl Dancer", Acrylic on Canson board, 8 1/2 x 11.

My Boy and His Boy

I can't explain how glad I am to know my son is happy and well. His son is so cute and Joe looks so happy with him, I know he will be a great dad! Here is another picture of Joe and Logan.

Good Con and Good News

Darkover Con, which I have attended for over 20 years has not been very good sales wise in the past several years. This year I did fairly well in the art show, sold several books and calendars as well. This was the best Darkover sales I have had in many years!

The other good news is my son, who has been unreachable for the past 7 years has surfaced! He contacted his mother (has not contacted us yet) but knowing he is alive and well is great! I also am now a grandfather! He has a 6 month old son named Logan!
I just hope someday I get to meet him and that Joe lets us back in his life!

Keening For the Dragonlady

http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mediabistro.com%2Fgalleycat%2Fanne-mccaffrey-has-died_b42826&h=NAQEcmgfIAQFunN25SJUFjKPZQjPWopb9KSO9rFgx-y7Lkg

Anne McCaffrey has died! She was one of my favorite authors and one of the few who created gay characters as just normal people in her world. I was part of the Dragonriders of Pern Fan club Fort Weyr. Here is one of the pictures I did way back when of my character from Fort, T'ran and his green dragon, Ananth! "Bad Timing", 8 1/2 x 11, marker on art paper. Prints available.

Feeding The Muse Again

Well, I have tried working on some of the stuff I need to be doing and it is just not working! So here is another "muse treat". This is a Steampunk ornament painted on a 3 inch wooden disc. "Black Unicorn Over London", Acrylic on wood. SOLD, prints for sale. Picture 51.

Update on Website

My website still needs tons of updating but at least it now has a link for my calendar!

Round Wood Muse Treat

While I have lots I should be doing, I can't seem to get any of them to work right now. So, I had an idea for badges painted on wooden rounds. And since Anbessa has commissioned me twice and I enjoyed doing the work for him, I thought I would do this as a gift for him. "Anbessa badge", acrylic on a 3 inch wooden round. If you like the idea and want one, they are $20. (The person I did this for requested I change the lion mane to black, so here is the new version as well). Picture 50.

Dark Muse Treat

This is what some on FurAffinity call "personal art", basically something done for themselves and not as a commission etc. I loved the images in the movie Pans Labyrinth and until now I had not tried to do anything based on them. This is based on a photo of Pan from the movie and was pretty quick to do and fun.
"Pan in Shadow", 7 1/2 x 11, white Prisma Color and Acrylic on black board. Original and prints for sale. Picture 49.

Oh Deer

More Christmas card ideas, well one more. I have always liked the strong graphic designs of some of the classic Christmas cards from my childhood. So I did this reindeer as a simple graphic design on dark blue. "Snow Deer", 10 x 7 1/2, Pro White on Canson board. SOLD,  prints for sale. Picture 48.

Christmas Continued

Here is the (I think) finished version of the Christmas Elf card idea. There will be words of some kind on the actual card when we use it for Christmas. It is roughly 8 x 10, Acrylic and ProWhite on Canson board. Original and prints for sale. Picture 47.

Start on Christmas

I have tons to do, some even for money, but time demands that I do our Christmas card design now if I want to be able to have it printed in time to send them out for Christmas. I have a start but I am not sure what to have balanced on his fingers...or floating in front of him etc. Any ideas will be appreciated! I plant to have him wearing green and red most likely. Remember, this is an early step in the process.

Muse Treat, Eye Test

OK, I just did this as a test to see if my eyes were going to work well enough using the two pair of glasses at the same time trick to be able to do art. It seems ok to me, but I need to know if it really looks OK, so please let me know. It is a muse treat since it is a small quick picture not part of what I should be doing. "Creature Study", 8 x 10, Acrylic and white Prisma Color on Canson board. Original and prints for sale. Picture 46.

The End?

My eye problems are really making me crazy and worried but I am trying to work around it. Since I have nothing new to post I am trying to find stuff I have not posted here before. So here is another hand colored print. This was done for the back of my black and white book "Darkness & Light: Demons and Angels" (out of print). I admit I am a butt man and this angel has cute bunns! I love his face and wings as well. The black and white version is nice but I think color really makes this a great picture! "Heavenly End", 8 1/2 x 11, Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil on goldenrod card stock. Prints available.

Elf Improvement

Well...since I am pretty sure I had already posted the Amor Box, I am trying again. This is a hand colored version of a black and white piece I did for one of my black & white books as the the cover. "Web of Life; Black Fire", maybe 10 x 10, Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil on goldenrod cardstock. Prints available.

Box Art

I hope again I have not already posted this. It is a painted box that I did several years ago. I was trying to make an imitation ivory look for the center circle and do some inlay look as well. This is still available for sale. "Amor Box", 12 x 9 x 3 1/2, Acrylics and enamel on wood. The sides are decorated with a plant and gold border similar to that on the top. The inside is painted in a fake heart wood (red stain).

Why No New Art?

Just to update people and explain why I have not posted any new art in a while. My diabetes has played havoc with my eye sight and so it is hard to do any art right now. To make it clear how much problem it is, I am right now wearing a pair of off the rack reading glasses AND my prescription glasses over them (it looks stupid) just so I can see well enough to read and type this.

I hope VERY much that once we get my diabetes under control I can see an eye Dr and get new glasses that will work for me so I can get back to doing the art I need and want to do!

Knight Knight

Here is another old SCA related picture. I did this as the illumination part of a scroll. It is based on a 13th century manuscript page. The background looks odd because it is gold leaf that is not well done. "Battle Scene", 3 x 9 (I think),  Acrylic and gold leaf on clayboard (again, I think).

Hell Mouth in the Snow

The event I made the Hell Mouth entry way for had snow, yes SNOW all day long, 2 days before Halloween! It was cold and windy and we still had a full feast and a good time! Here is one of the only pictures of the Hell Mouth I did in place. It is about 9 feet tall and as wide as a very large sheet (I forget the mesurments exactly). I had to add strips on the side and the wind blew them around in this picture. Acrylics, latex house paint, on a sheet.

New To THis Page I Hope

This is a black scroll I did a few years ago, before I had this Weble, so I hope it has not been posted before. Black Russian (so called because it was for a Russian persona and the calligraphy, not shown, was in Cyrillic), 8 1/2 x 5, Acrylic on black paper.

Almost a Real Boy

Here is a picture of my BJD (ball jointed doll), now with a face, eyes, hair and looking allot like a boy than an alien as in the first picture I showed of him. Still working on the hair, not sue what it will look like when finished. He needs clothing but for now, this is what I have.

Another Old Pic for Halloween

Not sure if I posted this before so here is "Demon's Escape" just for the holiday! It is 8 1/2 x 11, marker ob Bristol.

Old Pic For Halloween

Not a great quality scan but the best I have. This is a very old (from the 80's) picture I did as a Tshirt design for the group of friends who used to do a haunted house for Halloween! We had a blast for 3 years, lots of work but lots of fun. This was, I think 8 1/2 x 11 on regular paper, done in marker. Hope I didn't post it before, but if I did, oh well!

Not a Well Man

Well it is official, I have Diabetes, they did a test at the Dr and it said HI! and Not the good Hi, so now I have to drastically change my eating or they will want me on insulin, which I can NOT do cause I can NOT deal with needles!

Living Fountain

I would bet I have posted this one before, but in case I have not, here is an older black and white merman/boy that I did back when I was printing black and white books. I still really like him and will someday do a colored version I am sure. "Living Fountain", 8 1/2 x 11, marker (micron I think) on Bristol. Prints available.

Wellcome to Follower 100

While I know some don't really look at this weble anymore and that some who are on the followers list are "inactive", I appreciate those who do look, read and comment here! Thank You! New followers, please comment, that is why I have this weble, to get feedback. I hope to post more art soon!

Not and Alien

I finally got my birthday present! He is a Ball Jointed Doll and this is just a head shot of him in the box. I still have to get eyes and a wig and eventually clothing for him. This could be an expensive hobby, but it gives me things to ask for for Christmas! Still thinking about a name for him.

For the Birds part 2

Here is the first color version of Cardinal Transformation. I also did a version with bling (available only as prints).
Acrylic, Micron marker on Bristol. Original and prints for sale. Picture 45.

Monday, October 17, 2011

For the Birds

I hope this is a start to get me working again. I had a few hours away from home where I had nothing really to do so I had an old sketch of Cardinal partly done and decided to do something with it. This is what I came up with, it may or may not get colored. "Cardinal Transformation", 7 x 11 Micron marker on Bristol. Prints for sale.

2012 Calendar

OK, here is the cover and what will be in the calendar. I tried to do a nice cross section of my work, all G or PG at worst. In future I may do a more adult calendar but not this year. This will be an 8 1/2 x 11 professionally printed calendar. The cost is $20 + shipping ($2 for regular shipping, $5 for priority).

Giant Muse Treat

OK, it is not really a Muse Treat, it is the entry way for our upcoming SCA Halloween event http://www.brighthills.net/events/tnt2011.html . This is based on a Hell Mouth from an illuminated manuscript and will have the center area where the teeth are cutout. It will frame the door to the event and will have "flames" hanging in front of the open area. This is Acrylic and latex house paint on a large sheet. The section shown here is 65 x 36 aprox. it is only the top part of the overall doorway. Once the thing is up at the event I will try and get pictures to show the finished work. Picture 44.

Calendar of My Art??

I am contemplating putting together a Calendar of my art. Since I am having trouble doing new art right now I am trying to do something with the art I have to maybe make some money.

Any thoughts?

Continued Work

While I have tons to do and have little energy I am trying to get myself to work on some art. So here is as far as I have gotten on the Sons of the Sea possible cover idea. I do still hope to finish it and I like what I have done. Lots more to go, but so many other things I really need to do before the end of the month...

Illuminated Capital

I hope I have not posted this before. I designed this illuminated capital several years ago. It is based on various capitals from the 1500's and in this case includes my personal Arms. This is a capital T, 3 x 3, Acrylic on illustration board.

Tarot Favorites

This is the King of Jewels from my Tarot deck, it is Corum, one of Micheal Moorcock's Eternal Champions. My Tarots Major Arcana is based on all of the main Eternal Champions. They fit so well I wonder if Mr. Moorcock planned them that way. I am very happy with how this one came out, there is allot of mood and a feeling to me that captures Corum well.  The original is roughly 8 x 5, marker and watercolor colored pencil on illustration board. Prints available.

More Old Stuff

This one is part of a series of sorts that I did of vampire/victum lovers. It was 8 x 5 1/2  I think, marker on art paper, done to be made into greeting cards printed on a colored card stock. Lover of Darkness was done in 1990 and prints or cards are available.

Hope this Old Pic is New Here

This is my Vampyre character that I have a story partly written about. The story is on here posted last year (Strange Delights). I may have posted this when I posted the story, but oh well, I need to post art and this is something I am happy with and so I will post it now. I am very happy with this, it has tons of details and just works for me. Valantene at the Window, 9 x 12, marker (Micron I think) on Bristol. As always prints are available.

More Old Art

This was done in 1994, Dark Dreams, 8 1/2 x 11 (I think) marker on art paper.

Old Stuff

Since I am having problems with my health and motivation and creativity, I have no new art to post. But since Pyrocantha is demanding art, here is something I did in 1989. I love the overall feel of this and hop you like it. The adult figure was inspired by one of the figures on the Last Judgment by Michelangelo. Joy in the Mist is 8 1/2 x 11, marker on art paper.

Trying

I have 8 things on my list and even more than that to do, several of which are due soon. But I am not being able to draw or paint anything...So I am trying to do something, anything to get me working again. This is an idea for the cover for my Sons of the Sea book. Just an idea, very early on in the process.
