Lottsa Leaves

I am crazy, I admit it freely. Often I get in the middle of some picture where I decided to do every bloody stone, pebble, leaf, blade of grass etc. and wonder WHY I decided to do all this work! This one I did last year and decided to do every leaf (even though they are monochromatic) with shading and some highlight. For at least 2/3 rds of the background I do each leaf and stick and make them smaller as they recede. The original concept came from a photo of the shadow of a tree. The Young man/boy/elf came next then the staff (inspired by some Art Nouveau designs) that turned into the antler combination and then the shadow turning into a stag. He symbolizes the first frost of the year and the oncoming winter. If no one ever buys this I will be just as happy to keep him. I think this is approx. 10 x 13, Acrylic and watercolor colored pencil on Canson board.

  1. After all those leaves, yes, I'd be happy to keep it as well! The shadow of the tree, coupled with the antlers, creates the impression of antlers on him. (I have just finished The Mists of Avalon and have King Stags and young stags on my mind, I guess.) Personally, I see him as an Elf. Which I doubt is surprising. :)
