Small But Not Small

This is a scroll for the SCA (www.sca.org) inspired by a tiny Book of Hours, the Prayer Book of Claude de France, 1517 (http://www.themorgan.org/exhibitions/claude.asp). My scroll is 5 1/2 x 7 and that is pretty small, but the Prayer book it is based on is about 2 1/2 inches tall so, while my work is small, it is not really small compared to the inspiration. This is Acrylic on Velum (animal skin not paper). Picture 32.

did you do this one like you did the knight shield? it does not look like it on really close inspection but it .. Tastes the same. a cool blue flavour like ice with hints of grassy notes and cool green cucumber. kinda like the flavour one gets on the tongue on a cool summer even in a meadow. just in case you ever wanted to know.

at anyrate there is a very similar translucence also. is that from the velum. cause if so that never quite feels/tastes like that in real life for some reason. which is why i was wondering if there was the under painting involved.

  2. The shield was large, on a curved wood surface and done in many layers, this is tiny, on velum and while it has some layering, is not really similar tothe the shield in many ways. But it does have the layering (just not as much by any means as the shield). Your whatchamacallit (where you taste colors etc) throws me sometimes but I understand.

  3. I really like this. I would attempt it as small as the original, but no way would it look as good, and you'd probably see me next with half of my hair missing for being yanked out in frustration. ;)
