Words to Live By!

(My friend Ryan posted this on his LJ and I normally don't post this sort of thing but it fits my philosophy and I just had to spread it)

Paradoxical Commandments

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today, will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs, but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help, but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

(And while I am breaking my own rule, watch this! I also feel it is VERY important!)

  1. I learned of this while listening to a Justice League audio novel Thursday... apparently it's framed at the Kent homestead and Superman lives by it.

  2. COOL! From Superman huh? Well no matter where they came from they are worth keeping!

  3. Yes, yes they are. Although, they don't sound too fun ;)

  4. Fun? I think their point is do the right thing because it is the right thing NOT because it means everything will go smooth and easy.

It took me many years to learn that trying to please everyone means you please no one and that only by being yourself will YOU and others, honestly like you!
Being true to yourself, trusting yourself and pushing through even when others tell you it's useless or wrong and that doing it some other way would be easier is the point. Is the way to be happy with what you do, even if you fail!
