New Old Art

This piece was started many years ago, maybe as many as 20, I just came across it and decided I should finish it. It is an old cigar box I think. "Vampyre Reliquary", 7 x 8 1/2, Acrylic on wooden box. Original and prints available. Picture 2.

  1. This is nice and creepy. I like the use of limited color a lot, the red and gold accents against the grey. I puzzled over what the golden thing was in the center until I figured out it was a skull. I like the ambiguity of the shapes because it is like a puzzle. Very nicely done.

  2. Wish it were not so "ambiguous" as the skull should be recognizable. I hope the problem is with the shape of the window through which you see it and not with the rendering of the skull itself.

  3. Surrealistic Spiral Staircase was certainly inspired by the image you sent me. Except instead of making a new one I found it in my archives. I don't know why I hadn't posted that one before. I do like the dimensionality of your vampire gothic picture above, it gives a cavern like space defined by the skull and it could even be scary. Excellent use of red accents.
