I couldn't think of anything new for this years Christmas card design so I asked Don if he had any ideas. He suggested Joseph and the baby Jesus. So after much work, trying to keep a somewhat Medieval feel, this is what I came up with. The halo was added after much consideration. It needed something and again Don suggested the halo, I tried to keep it subtle. The final version of the card may have a border. "Joseph and Jesus", approx. 7 1/2 x 11, Acrylic on Canson board. 53

i was always surprised by the lack of joseph in such images. it always made mary seem like a single mom.
ReplyDeleteWell, after the march I am glad to have done this because of one of the signs we saw. It said "Jesus had two dads and he turned out alright"! There were many Really good signs. And the Cult of the Virgin tried to erase Joseph from the story, so you only see him in the background if at all usualy.
ReplyDeleteWOW! That's a beautiful painting. It took a few seconds to get the "jesus had 2 dads" but i got it now. lol I'd never thought of that before.

ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful piece, simply beautiful. The color work and subtlety of the piece imbue it with a stately sense of peace. I truly hope to be gifted with a copy of this at Christmastime.
