Number 42

I have done my first new picture since returning from Pennsic. It is simple and black and white but It has some merit I think. I love working on the black paper and this was quick being white Prisma Color on the black background. I love Selkies and while this isn't overt, it is a Selkie. 9 x 12. I forgot to mention, this is picture 42 for the year.

  1. Nice job, white on black. And your Selkie looks like he's having an, uh, ecstatic experience.
Do you use live models? Or do you get people to pose for parts of the figure? Or do you use photographs.
I find it almost impossible to draw figures from my imagination, I always need a reference of some sort.

  2. I would love to have live models pose for me, but I can't afford it. So I tend to use photo references alot. They are mostly crutches (as I refer to them only minimaly to help me be sure I am getting things right). I can do figures without a reference but they are never quite as "real" as those with some reference to help me get details or lighting as perfect as I can.

  3. Nice. The simple background seems to work well with the medium.

  4. I love the black and white! It looks very ... moonlit to me. (Sorry for the incoherence. I'm very tired tonight. :)
