From Pain Comes Art

I had an experience that made me feel like a failure and in retrospect, I was not. It did inspire me to do this picture. While I only wish I looked like this, it is representational of me in some ways. The small shield on the baldric is my Arms in the SCA and the precarious balance is to show how off balance I felt at the time. "Baron's Folly" was about 15 x 20 on Canson paper (wish it had been the board). Done in Acrylics and watercolor colored pencil. Inspired by the works of Michael Parkes.

  1. Isn't it odd how hardship can sometimes inspire one's best work? At least, that's the case with me; I don't feel much inspiration when I'm "normal" (as if!). But take it to one extreme or the other, and all bets are off.

This looks very ... I keep thinking whimsical but that's not quite the right word. Somewhere between whimsical and fantastical. :) It makes me wonder what world the subject goes home to. I think it's the variety of colors: the wee green bird and the pink cloak against the piles of blue-gray clouds. It's very ... otherworldly! There! That was the word I was looking for. :)
